Accessibility statement

River Rock Builders, LLC intends this website to be usable by everyone, including people using a keyboard alone, a screen reader, magnification, or a browser with motion reduced.

A substantial share of the people who contact us are building a last house rather than a first one, and designing for that was not an afterthought here. Body text starts at seventeen pixels, line length is capped so lines do not run across a wide screen, nothing on the site depends on hovering, and the telephone number is a real link on every page at every screen size.

Target standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at level AA. That is the standard this site was designed and built against.

What has been done

• Semantic structure. Real landmarks — header, navigation, main, footer — one h1 per page, and headings that descend in order without skipping levels.
• Skip link. The first focusable element on every page jumps straight to the main content and becomes visible when it receives focus.
• Keyboard operation. Everything interactive is reachable and operable from the keyboard, in a logical order. The services submenu opens on focus as well as on hover, so it does not require a pointer. The mobile menu closes on the Escape key and returns focus to the button that opened it.
• Visible focus. Every interactive element has a clearly visible focus outline with an offset, in a colour tested for contrast against both the light and the dark backgrounds it appears on.
• Contrast. Text and interface component colour pairs were checked against the AA thresholds, including the borders of outlined buttons on dark backgrounds, which are held above the three-to-one requirement for interface components.
• Forms. Every field has a real associated label. Hints are connected to their fields with aria-describedby rather than left as unlinked text. Error styling appears only after you have interacted with a field, not on first load. Autocomplete attributes are set so browsers and assistive tools can fill fields correctly.
• Images and drawings. Decorative drawings are hidden from assistive technology. Drawings that carry information — the boring log, the service-area diagram, the regional section — expose a title and a full text description of what they show, so their content is available without seeing them. Every image has explicit width and height so the page does not shift while it loads.
• Questions and answers use the browser's own disclosure element and open and close correctly with JavaScript switched off.
• Motion. There is one animation on the site: the boring log on the home page draws itself once. All content is visible by default and animation only adds movement. When your system is set to reduce motion, every animation and transition is removed.
• Zoom and reflow. The layout is built mobile-first with relative units and reflows to a single column without horizontal scrolling, at small screen sizes and at two hundred per cent zoom.
• Without JavaScript the whole site still reads, every page is reachable through the footer, the questions still open and the form still submits.

Known limitations

Stating these is more useful than claiming there are none.

• The drawings are technical by nature. Their text descriptions convey what each one shows, but a drawn section is inherently harder to absorb through a description than a sentence is, and we have written the surrounding prose so that no drawing is the only place a fact appears.
• Headings are set in a serif face taken from the fonts already on your device rather than downloaded, so their exact appearance varies between operating systems. Size, spacing and contrast are controlled; the letterforms are not.
• This site has been tested by its builders rather than audited by an independent accessibility specialist. {{FILL_BEFORE_LAUNCH}} — if a formal audit is commissioned, record its date and scope here.

We will acknowledge and tell you what we can do about it. If the fix will take time, we will give you the information you were after by another route in the meantime — over the phone, by email, or on paper by post if that suits you better.
